HDMI - No output signal

I connected my laptop to a new LG Monitor. The monitor shows "No output signal" and the laptop can't detect a display.

I also tried connecting to a TV and the same thing happens.

What is strange is that my (work) laptop can connect to monitors at work. Also, I tested the LG monitor with my personal laptop and it works.

What could the issue be? Is it a problem the HDMI version of the cable? (it is an old one, maybe it is 1.4 and not 2.0, but I am not sure)
