Dell Docking Station. HP laptop. 2 Dell monitors. Help meeeee

I have a Dell WD19 K20A docking station with the cable coming out of it to connect to the Dell laptop. I don’t know what the cable is called. It is permanently attached to the dock and it has a small P inside of a D as the logo on the plug. I currently have two Dell Monitors plugged into said docking station and it works perfectly with my Dell Laptop. But. I have an HP laptop model number 15-bk003cy that does not have a female side to the cable. Would it work to get an adapter with the female side of the cable mentioned above and a male HDMI on the other end to be able to have my HP work with the two external monitors through the docking station? Is there a different adapter that would work? Thank you.

@keenamtz  The connector you're referring to is USB-C.  The "DP" logo you're referring to is the logo for DisplayPort, which is a type of video output signal, and the one that USB-C uses for carrying a video signal to drive displays.  Unfortunately if you don't have a USB-C connector on your HP laptop, then no adapter will make it work properly with the WD19 dock.  In order to work with the WD19, you need a laptop that has a USB-C connector that supports video output, USB 3.1 Gen 1 or better, and USB Power Delivery to charge the laptop over USB-C.  And actually all 3 of those capabilities are optional on USB-C connectors, and not all laptops with USB-C connectors support all of those optional functions.  My understanding is that right now, only the business-oriented HP product lines have USB-C ports that support video output and charging, whereas on the systems in consumer-oriented lines like the Pavilion line that yours comes from, even systems that have USB-C ports only have ports that support USB 3.1 Gen 1.  In that case, even if you DID have a USB-C port, you wouldn't be able to use the dock properly.

If you want a dock that will operate with both systems, you'd want a Dell D6000.  That can connect via either USB-C or USB-A "regular USB".  When connected via the latter method, the dock wouldn't be able to charge the attached system, but when connected via USB-C it can provide up to 60W.  However, the WD19 can provide up to 130W to attached Dell systems, and you didn't specify what Dell laptop you have, so I can't be sure that the D6000 would be a suitable replacement.  If the laptop requires more than 60W of power, then using the D6000 could result in slower battery charging and reduced performance as the laptop tries to reduce its power consumption to operate within the reduced power budget.  You could avoid this by connecting the laptop's own charger directly as well, but that's of course less convenient.  But even apart from that, the other drawback with the D6000 is that it uses "indirect display" technology called DisplayLink (not to be confused with DisplayPort as I mentioned above).  That's how it's able to operate even over regular USB ports that don't normally support video output, but DisplayLink comes with some drawbacks that can be significant in certain use cases.  I wrote about those in detail in the post marked as the answer in this thread.  DisplayLink docks also require you to be able to install DisplayLink software on any systems you'd be using them with, so if you have a work system managed by an IT organization, you might need their approval and assistance with that.

Hi:

I have a DELL WD19  docking station. It works perfect with a DELL laptop connecting two monitors.

Now I connected the WD19 to my HP Pavilion laptop model 15-eg2000  which has a Thurderbolt C port. I connected one HDMI cable and one Display port cable to the WD19 and had two HP monitors. It worked ok for 2 week except some time one of the monitors flicered. After two weeks, it stopped working . The LED on the C connector which connects to the Laptop keep blinking.

Why it worked for two weeks and suddenly stopped? Is there any prob? If I connect the WD19 back to the DELL laptop it works just fine.

Do I need any adapter?  Please help me.

Thanks
