Cracking noise in MS Teams from Jabra USB headset after upgrading to 01.00.36, 01.00.20 WD19S docker firmware

Hi,

I just upgrade the docker firmware to 01.00.36, 01.00.20, noticed there is cracking noise when using the Jabra USB headset with MS Teams after upgrading. Tried the new firmware on both WD19s and WD19ds and having the same issue. downgraded back to 01.00.32, 01.00.16 and issue disappeared.

Devices: Latitude 5420 with WD19s and WD19ds

RESOLUTION!

Had this issue with several people. Go to: control panel > hardwarwe and sound > sound > (choose headset) > properties > advanced > polling rate dropdown > choose lower polling rate.

I think the audio drivers for the docks and some laptops default to the highest polling rate for better audio quality, but some headsets do not support it. I tested all the polling rates for my headsets and found that the lower the polling rate, the less static, but the lower audio quality was. 22000Hz for our logitech headsets seemed to be the sweet spot.

I've had this issue on multiple devices as well and have also resorted to rolling back the update. Audio distortion only occurs in teams calls for my jobsite. Not sure why the issue is specific to teams

Confirmed. When I connect it directly to the laptop (Precision 5570 in my case) the crackling noise is gone.

How can I restore the previous firmware please? The tool doesn't want to install anything other than the latest and "greatest", but I do want to figure out if this does away the problem.

Edit: turns out it's very easy (well, it was for me anyway). I went here to download the previous version:

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=w5jt8&oscode=wt64a&productcode=dell-wd19s-130w-dock

And then in the program, click the cog and enter "/f" (without the quotes). That will force it to perform a downgrade.

For steps on downgrading the firmware:

  1. Download https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER10002313M/1/DellDockFirmwarePackage_WD19_WD22_Series_HD22_01.00.16.exe
  2. Open CMD/PS as admin, CD to directory of downloaded firmware
  3. Run .\DellDockFirmwarePackage_WD19_WD22_Series_HD22_01.00.16.exe /f
  4. Click Update and let the installer do its thing. USB Headset should work fine immediately after

@Rylan_ Thanks for the solution. Mine was selected 48000hz DVD quality by default, lower it to 44100HZ CD quality and problem solved.

I was grateful to come across this post, as I recently have been having issues with my Logitech H390 headset after updating my WD19 dock firmware. I noted when plugged in directly to my Precision 3571, there were no issues. Rather than downgrading the dock firmware, I was able to use the changing the sample rate/bit depth solution as 16 bit 44100 Hz (CD Quality). It was set to 48000 Hz (DVD quality).

The sound coming out of my headphones before changing this was absolutely deafening, seems to be some form of over amplification of the audio which the headphones don't support/handle well at all.

Update from my end: Dell has informed me they have a potential firmware fix for the docking station, but it is not available for public release. So at this point, I would just wait for the newest firmware to come out.

@Rylan_ Thanks. Lower audio quality to 44100 Hz resolved the problem.
