XPS 9530 keyboard backlight settings not applying

I am using the dell keyboard backlight settings to try to enable the automatic keyboard backlight ("Illuminate keyboard in low light conditions only") and it really is not working. 

I can click the check box to enable it, but when I press apply it just resets the checkbox to empty and sets the time for the keyboard backlight back to 1 minute. I have restarted my computer many times with and without manually adjusting the backlight with the key and I have re-installed the software to adjust the keyboard backlight. 

Nothing seems to be working.
