XPS 13 9360 3D (OpenGL?) Problems Started Recently (mid-Oct 2017)

Hi,

I've been using a number of applications like Sketchup successfully on this laptop since buying it in February 2017.  Recently, last couple of weeks, any 3D window on the external Dell monitor connected by USB dock has stopped working (application works, but 3D part does not).  Also, the same 3D windows are now slow for certain operations on the laptop screen.  Everything else works fine on both screens, e.g. browser, etc.

I've not changed any config/set up, but have in the last day I have checked all Dell drivers and BIOS are up to date, but problem still persists.

Has Dell updated some software that is causing this issue?  Anybody else have a similar problem recently?

Thanks.

I get them from the US Dell support, from the "video" category.

www.dell.com/.../drivers

However, you can only get down to the immediate previous version (A07 as of now).

I have the A04 version locally stored and protected like a precious gem. You can download it from here:

Hope this helps

Hi,

I also have the same problem, but my struggle with OpenGL applications is from way back.

There has been about 8 updates to the graphics drivers since the 9360 came out last year. My problems started with update A05, where all OpenGL application were sort of scaled up vertically, making them look super weird and the mapping with the mouse was way off. To fix it I went back to driver A04 and never upgraded again... till today...

I decided to give new driver A08 a try. Now, OpenGL applications work fine in the laptop alone, but they don;t show up when connected to an external monitor. with external monitor (usb adapter), the app seems to run, but I only see white window.

I will try to install version A07 to see if things work. If not, I'll just go back to the good old A04 and stay there.

UPDATE: A07 driver gives me the same problem as A08. I went back to driver A04 and OpenGl apps works fine again.

As a testing tool I'm using Geeks3D's GpuTest. It is just some OpenGl apps that run and stress your gpu.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.  That is interesting.  Which file contains the graphics drivers?   On the UK Dell support page I see the "Intel Chipset Device Software Driver",  but it only lists A07 and does not show 'Older versions' like some of the other drivers.

Thanks.

Thank you for your message. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Does the application work on the notebook itself, when there is no external monitor connected?

What is the model of the dock connected?  Please share the version of BIOS installed.

For my reference, please click on my Dell username & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

Thanks. This worked for me. My simple CAD software using OpenGL was not showing its graphics when using the docking station, since the latest update from Dell. Installing this A04 fixed that, but obviously Dell need to fix the problem in the latest version.
