Wireless mouse not working

I have an Inspiron 8600 in which I recently installed  XP Professional (originally had Home Edition) as well as a new hard drive (original one crashed). When I re-attached my wireless microsoft optical mouse 2.0 it would not work, even though I get a message from Mouse Properties that the hardware is working properly.

Please help.

You might try going into the control panel, system, hardware, Device Manager and check under mice and other pointing devices, and see if your wireless mouse shows up without problems, no yellow ? or red X. Double click on it and try to reinstall the drivers. Sometimes a Microsoft mouse uses its own drivers specific to the model and not their generic drivers in the Windows install. Also, I don't mean to sound know it all, but does the mouse light glow under the bottom and the receiver also. Just a few suggestions to try and help.

Sorry I haven't thanked you sooner for your help. Your advice of changing the batteries worked.

Thanks again.
