which output for audio to a USB plug on car stereo?

I am running iTunes on my XPS-15 laptop and want to connect it to a Fusion car stereo.  The Fusion has a USB input.  My question: which output on the laptop should I use?  The headphone jack seems most obvious, but I don't know if the signal is appropriate for the USB connection.  Thanks.

The headphone jack seems most obvious, but I don't know if the signal is appropriate for the USB connection.

If you use the headphone jack, connect it to the AUX input of the stereo.

It looks to me that the usb port is for direct connection of iPad/iPod kind of devices. You could connect your laptop's usb port to the stereo's usb port, then check on the Playback tab of your Sound properties and see if Windows recognizes the stereo as an external audio device or not. If it does then it will show up in the list of devices and you will be able to select it as the default device. If it does not show up then you have to use the headphone jack.

Here is an example -- it's the Playback tab of the Sound properties of my computer. The device named "Speaker-- Creative Sound Blaster" is an external usb audio device connected to one of the laptop's usb ports. In this example I have selected the laptop's internal audio (IDT) as the default, but the SoundBlaster is available when needed.
