Smart Card reader

I am having a problem with some of the smart card readers on our D620. When the card is inserted and the pin is typed it unlocks the laptop but very quickly it locks it back continuously. Anyone have any ideas?

We are experiencing similar problems with our D620 laptops. Users can log on with their smart card, in a domain environment, but after a short period of time the user accounts lock out. We believe it to be a hardware issue with the card reader or the laptop itself because this only happens on our D620's. I have installed and tested the newest driver from dell for this model but have still been unsuccessful in finding a solution. Still searching for the solution! If anyone has any ideas please post them.

I was thinking it was a hardware issue as well. I am having the same problem on a few D820's as well. They had this problem out of the box.

What kind of smart card and middleware are you using? Have you updated the reader drivers to the latest which is probably o2Micro?

Our middleware is ActiveClient 6 from ActiveIdentity I am not able to use anything else (mandated). My first step was to update to the latest drivers which were O2Micro. After contacting customer support it was discovered that the card readers support only 3V or 5V Java based cards. The card stock which is issued to most people in my company is 2V and a few 5V. After realizing this we tested the cards and confirmed this to be true. The 2V cards did not function correctly and the 5V had no issues.

Testing AC 6.1 for awhile now. There is known issue's with Oberthur cards and the D620/D630 using o2micro. The last update was in Dec 2007 and understand there a beta release now.   There should also be a new SP2 coming out from AC shortly.   What class c (1.8v) card are you using?
