Right side USB port not working

I have a Inspiron 15 7569 running Windows 10, the right side USB port doesn't seem to be working properly. I have updated all the drivers, and also Windows to the latest. When I plug in my wireless mouse or any USB flash drive it works for 2 seconds and then disconnects them. On the other hand, my WIRED mouse works perfectly in that same USB port. Any ideas?

Thanks, Buy1

Hi BUY1GET1FREEE,

Are you using USB 2.0 compatible devices? Does the USB 3.0 port on the left side work fine?

The port on the right side is the USB 2.0 port and will work efficiently with USB 2.0 devices and hence the wired mouse works fine when you plug it in.

If the system was working fine earlier, then perform a system restore to restore the machine to an earlier point where it was working fine - http://bit.ly/1JEw2ov

Enable the built in admin account and check if the devices work fine when plugged in - http://bit.ly/2pqXQ1p

If required, update the BIOS and reinstall the chipset drivers and check - http://dell.to/2pujVgc

Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

Let us know if you have any other queries.

The 3.0 USB on the left side works fine, no problems. Tested it a bunch today, the WIRELESS mouse I'm having the issue with works every once and a while on the right side USB 2.0 port. It has been like this since I got the laptop. I'll try the things you posted tomorrow and will update on the situation.

Tried them all, and the same problem is still occuring. Intermitting connection with the wireless mouse and external harddrives. But the WIRED mouse has no issues in this port. Any other ideas?

Hi BUY1GET1FREEE,

Do these wireless devices / ext HDD work fine on another machine? Does the external HDD need a power source? Do you have a USB flash drive to test with?

If you have tried the safe mode and the built in admin account and reinstalled the chipset drivers and updated BIOS and the same behavior is noticed, then I suppose there could be an issue with the port or the OS itself.

Since the issue was from the time you received the machine, there is no point in restoring factory defaults.

I would suggest you to backup the data and download a copy of the OS ISO image here - http://dell.to/1Rd3bvj and reinstall the OS on the machine and check.

If the issue is not resolved and if the system is under warranty, then we can setup a service call and get it fixed as per the warranty and your region.
