Latitude E6400 Fingerprint Reader "not connected"

I have been researching the dell forums for months looking through almost every question about my problem and i have tried so many things and i'm finally asking for help. I upgraded my Dell Latitude E6400 Laptop to Windows 7 32bit in january and since then i have been unable to get my fingerprint scanner to work again. I had it set up Embassy and DCP when I still had windows vista and when i upgraded to win7 my broadcom USH driver malfunctioned. I finally found the right driver on the dell website and got all my drivers updated as far as i can tell and as soon as i set off to set up my fingerprint scanner using embassy and DCP (which i just reinstalled today) the fingerprint wizard tells me my scanner is not connected. since my scanner is internal i know for a fact that it is still connected and i have been racking my brain forever trying to figure this out. I have yet to find a forum with a clear solution to this problem. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!

I had the same issues, I recently upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit, and the fingerprint reader that had worked fine before did not show a connection. The dell support guys replaced the fingerprint reader, and this did not fix the problem. These are the steps that took to fix this problem, based on some other data that I found on the net. I should state that I set a password previous to these steps trying to setup the TPM security chip)

1. I re-installed the security pack drivers and used the modify option, this allowed the installation of the fingerprint reader software under the options area

2. I restarted the computer and turned off the TPM in my bios

3. I installed the firmware update that appears in the drivers for security (R309311)(I beleive the firmware is for control vault) I used the ushcv32 application under R309311\firmware, and needed to enter the registered TPM password

4. I restarted the computer and turned TPM on in the bios

5. I opened Dell Control Point and managed security, it had a yellow button for the fingerprint area, and stated that fingerprints needed to be registered

6. I selected the register link and registered the fingerprints as desired, You should see a "swipe finger" notation next to the user password when you get to the user password screen, if you see "failure" there is a problem.

of course you will need to re-register each user if you were like me and did not see the documentation on backing up the WAVE settings before upgrading. Please let me know

I am having the same problem with a new Latitude E6520 series.  It came with Win 7 Home Premium and works there, but when I put in a new drive and load Win 7 Ultimate, the Dell Data Protection cannot see it when I go to enroll a fingerprint.  However, if I go to advanced, Devices, and select the fingerprint reader, under Device Status, it lists the status as "OK".  In the device manager, under ControlVault Device, both the Win 7 Home Premium and Ultimate have the same driver listed and the same version of the Dell Access Software.  Not sure where the problem is....  Any help is appreciated.

I should say that the ushupgrade application from the firmware update would not work for me, it failed every time. It was curious to me that the only place that gave install instructions for the firmware patch was the WAVE site, and those instructions stated to use the ushupgrade application, maybe with the TPM off that application may have worked, it would have been hard to guess if the TPM status caused the problem as the application error was not specific at all.

Hi,

how did you made this firmware upgrade?

I have win 7 64 bit, after running the DOSUPDAT.BAT i become error messages, that its not compatible with 64 bit.

I suppose i need some sort of DOS boot disk? Just i want to check before i mess up something.

Hope you can remember and you receive this message from me :)

Im slowly giving up. Tried everything but this is the last try!
