Laptop will not recognize Administrator

My wife is the Administrator on her Inspiron E1505 laptop, Recently she found that she could no longer log in under her profile. On the log in screen we used to have both her log in, that requires a password and mine that doesn't. I just have general access. Now it will not allow my wife to log in at all. We can use the laptop through my log in, but I have no Administrator privileges. How do I get the laptop to recognize her log in again? I can't use Restore or any other programs to change or delete programs with my limited general privileges. It's sort of a Catch 22 type of situation. Any help here?

What version of windows?

If its XP Home you will not be able to login as Administrator with no password unless you F8 Boot in Safe Mode.

The built-in Administrator account is hidden from Welcome Screen when a user account with Administrator privileges exists and enabled.

In Windows XP Home Edition, you can login as built-in Administrator in F8 Safe Mode only.

For XP Professional, press CTRL + ALT + DEL twice at the Welcome Screen and input your

Administrator password in the classic logon window that appears.
