Laptop AC Adapters - 65W vs 90W

My Dell Inspiron 1521 Laptop came with a 65W AC adaptor (model FA65NS0-00).

Recently I purchased a new 90W AC adaptor (model NADP-90KB)

Both adapters are 19.5v outputs...

My question is:    Will I damage anything if I use my new 90W adapter on my 1521 Dell?

Not too sure tbh?

For the benefit of anyone reading  this who does know about such things... the 65w adapter kicks out 3.34 amps - whereas the 90w adapter is 4.62 amps.

In the meantime, the Inspiron 1521 isn't one of the compatible models mentioned here :emotion-55:

What about the other way? I have studio xps 13 that comes with 90 watt. But dell sold me 65 watt traveling combination adapter at 65watt and i get a warning that performance may be affected. Affecting performance I can live with in those situations where I would use 65 watt adapter.

BUT will using 65 watt adapter damage my computer ? (volts the same.)

You are fine with the 90 watt unit. Dell supplies the higher power adaptor when you have the 9-cell battery or a higher power-eating laptop.

The models supported as listed by the supplier are not up to date. My M1530 came with a PA-10 series 90 watt unit, and it's not listed, although the unit is listed as a replacement for the PA-10.

Gary:

What laptop and what battery do you have?

Did you order this or did Dell recommend it?They have at least one 90 watt unit: 90 watt travel adaptor<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>

The 65 watt unit will do no harm. The battery will not recharge as fast, and the CPU might throttle down. Best to use with the battery fully charged or removed if not charged.

Dell orally and separately in chat reccommended the 65 watt auto/air/ac. Somewhere I read that airlines will not allow 90 watt. If true that may be why, if the lower amps do not damage
