Help! Laptop stuck on black screen with flashing underscore on startup
I tried to restart in safe mode but now I'm stuck on a black screen after the dell logo on startup. I've run diagnostics and there are no errors. I have seen a couple of posts about the motherboard but I don't want to touch that! Also seen a post about using the disk you get with the laptop but I don't have this. Any ideas on how I can resolve this ASAP please?!

Thanks for writing to us.
Please PM us the system tag# by clicking on my name in blue and select send a private message.
Unless we know the model the it will be a little difficult to provide you steps on what to do.
Meanwhile please check in BIOS if the hard drive is detected . Usually a flashing underscore rarely points a faulty HD.
Also when the screen is blank, are you able toggle caps/nums lock?

Hi, so it was on Windows 10 I'm not sure of the model, about 4 years old. I could run diagnostics but that was about it. I ended up taking it to a repair shop as I was desperate because it wasn't my laptop! They've had to save the documents and restore to factory settings to correct it. They also said they ran some tests and it looked like it was the hard drive? Maybe I've been swindled out of money here but I was so desperate to fix it fast! Teach me to mess about with someone else's laptop!
