Dell laptop will not recognize printer

I am trying to install an HP printer on my Dell Inspiron 2200. I am using wireless system. I am using Vista. I have been with HP techs for a total of 4 and a half hours. They concluded that my Dell laptop will not let me install this printer because of something in my registry. HP told me to contact Dell, that it is their problem. I am very confused and to say the least disgusted. I tried to install the printer using a USB cord, but was told

because I had a wireless it would not work.

 Any help will be greatly appreciated.
