Dell Inspiron 5110 USB Ports

Windows 7 Home Premium (version 6.1 service pack 1) 64bit operating system

My usb ports are powered as I can see my mouse light up, however, they will not connect for use.  I have tried every update, system scan, etc that I can find and cannot find an answer as to why the ports are not working.

All of these issues began in the past 2 weeks.

Hi,

I would suggest you to follow the steps to uninstall the Universal Serial Bus Controllers from the device manager for issue resolution.

  1. Go to control panel
  2. Go to System and Security
  3. Go to Device Manager
  4. Click Universal Serial Bus Controllers
  5. Right click on the listed devices under it and click Uninstall.
  6. Restart the system.

Once the system has restarted, I’d suggest that you update BIOS and chipset driver on your computer to check for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, then download the BIOS from BIOS section and chipset from chipset section onto the system and install it.

Please let me know if this helps.

Dell-RAVI BC,

First, thank you for the reply.  It was fairly close to what I had done.  Here is what I did below.  I will however run your process as a double check.

1) select "windows" icon on bottom left of screen to open "search box"

2) type in "cmd" for Command Prompt and then right click mouse to use as administrator

3) Black box will open and then type the following:  sfc /scannow

As you can see from the text the error was fixed.  I found this fix after I did some research in regards to my "usbd.sys" files not being digitally signed.

One last note.  My McAfee nor System Mechanic could detect any issues but I did run a "trend micro House call" and it removed a trojan.  I do not recall the name.
