Broken wifi and Pro Support

Hello folks.

After much head scratching I have discovered that the wifi 6300 card by intel featuring tri band connectors is no longer supported by them and broken in windows 10 creators update.

The symptoms are identical on two laptops.

  • When attempting to connect to a netowork you are prompted for a password
  • Once entered it thinks for a while then says could not connect
  • Now it says there is no wifi networks found. Restarting the pc and they are seen again but only for the same problems to occur.

Intel have confirmed these tri band cards are 'end of life', which is somewhat frustrating as this was the last card made in the tri band configuration, there is no replacement.

I have inserted a wifi 7260 card which only has two antenna in one of the machines and sure enough I get wifi again, however the bluetooth then misbehaves, saying that dell bluetooth module could not load error 10.

This is all very frustrating:

  • Windows 10 offers the latest software and security updates is fast and much nicer to use than 8 and quicker than 7. Its inevitable that end users will upgrade.
  • Windows 10 forces updates on users, there is not really a way to stop them
  • I have two perfectly functional i5 and i7 laptops here which function as modern fast hardware in all other aspects
  • decisions by large corps means that one of the most important aspects, wireless connectivity is no longer supported and no longer works
  • There is no other option, no other hardware, so far as I can ascertain.
  • Apparently devices barely 5 years old are considered trash now presumably.

However I have pro support on one of these laptops until 2018. So whats the process here then? Does pro support cover operating systems that were not part of the original machine? I shall contact dell regarding this but really don't want a long conversation with someone who wont understand the issue.

Simply swapping the card out is not going to help. I wonder how pro support could help in this scenario?

Hi there

I spoke with a nice chap at dell, sadly my dell shipped with windows 7 and pro support only covers that. Which is a shame, but I guess I understand, sort of.

I would rather not leave my computer on an old operating system, so have windows 10. Essentially the wifi cards are no longer supported by intel, and evidently neither by dell. No other tri connector wifi card is available so basically haha tough luck customers get on the upgrade wagon.

Apparently there has never been drivers for any version of windows 10, so I guess the last port of call is microsoft.

I was helped with the bluetooth issue, but its not resolved I downloaded and installed the official dell drivers for bluetooth but it still says error code 10 against dell bluetooth 380. So in essence the 7260 card works, but only on 2.5ghz and you will have this bluetooth issue.

Sorry to hear that. For the Bluetooth error, what happens if you remove the existing driver, restart the system and let Windows install a driver itself?
