Sorry for resurrecting this old thread but for anyone experiencing this issue the device in question is most likely an "STMicroelectronics 3-Axis Digital Accelerometer" also known as a "Free Fall Sensor".
This device allows the laptop to detect if it has been dropped and stop spinning media such as a conventional magnetic platter hard disk before the laptop hits the ground, thus helping to prevent data loss from head crash.
Most current driver package as of today seems to be from www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

Hi caul,
Without knowing the model of system or the O/S you have it's difficult to say for certain, but it's more than likely you're looking for the Free Fall Sensor driver. You can download it by following the instructions below:
1. Go to the support site,
2. Choose your model or enter your service tag
3. Choose Drivers and Downloads
4. Click on Chipset to expand the list and download the ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor driver
5. Extract and Install the driver
If still under the purchased warranty, click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session.
