Right arrow key + touchpad fail intermittently since purchase

My system is only about 1.5 years old and relatively new. For as long as I can remember, I've had a problem where the touchpad would suddenly stop working. Additionally, the right arrow button stops working entirely. Using a bluetooth mouse, I never have problems.

I've done all sorts of troubleshooting to diagnose the issue, firmware updates, software updates, uninstall/reinstall of software, bios updates, etc. and nothing has fixed the issue. While I've read some mentioning about hardware wiring problems, I'm having doubts this is the issue as the functionality returns without any indication of why or what is different. It just returns after some period of time.

I asked about this while my machine was during warranty and I received the same troubleshooting steps to take, etc. and nothing worked. I do think this is probably some type of Dell Inspiron issue as I've seen others have the proble with the touchpad most often. I find it hard to believe that the keyboard and touchpad (both in superb condition) are the problem and replacement will change anything. In addition, it's unusual for two different parts to fail in the same fashion and the type of failure seems driver related.

Perhaps someone can advise. While I wanted to continue the warranty for another year, I couldn't see throwing good money after a product that may continue to fail within a year or two of purchase. Thanks for all responses.

Have you tried reinstalling Windows, drivers and apps to see if that will resolve the issue?

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.  Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.

How long do you will it take to reinstall Windows, drivers, and about 40 apps, many of which have copy protection which must be uninstalled and reinstalled? A week or more? No offense, but I'd first ask the person how long they've owned the device because, if this isn't the issue, then it's a disastrous reality for those who don't know this.

I have images of installations along the way and it happens with them. This doesn't appear to be a hardware issue. It periodically returns. I'm far from the only one experiencing this problem, especially with the touchpad. Any other ideas?
