Inspiron 16 7610, monitor 90W PD

Inspiron 16 7610

Inspiron 16 7610

My laptop (Inspiron 16 7610) has a 130W AC adapter. However, the maximum power delivery from dell monitors are just 90W (such as U2422HE, U2520D, U2421E), I really wonder if this 90W-power make a negative effect on the performance of my laptop (maybe when playing League or valorant) as well as the health of the battery. I really need your advice. Thank you so much!

On many systems, Dell laptops will only accept 65w although the external source was 90w.  Therefore, the answer won't be the same for every usages and every games, applications.  If you play premium games often or putting your Inspiron on heavy applications for long duration, it will require both source of AC power and battery.  You can observe this while playing heavy games with a fully charged battery and with AC adapter plugged in.  Monitor after a few hours, verify if your battery level has been gradually dropped.

With that result, a 65w or 90w power source may/will impact the system performance and the battery demand for recharging will also be at a faster frequency.  If your battery is discharge and recharge too frequent and too fast, it will generate high temperature, obviously that will affect the battery health as well.

When your laptop is immobile and in use, keep the AC adapter plugged in.

@Chino de Oro Thank you so much for your reply, do u mean that if the battery does not drop after a few hours of putting the laptop on my desired apps, the 90w from the monitor can replace fully the 130w-adapter? That's what I get from your response, cause like I mentioned the adapter that I am using provides my laptop with 130w power but the monitor from Dell only provide 90w. Am I understanding it clearly?

Right, because of different usages and preference settings, you would have to test yours to know the accurate power demand for your setup.  If your battery level does not get fluctuate from using power delivery, you do not need to use the laptop AC adapter.  If the battery power level dropped off, then keep the laptop AC adapter plugged in.

There's no need to test -- the system will simply not run at full speed with a 90W input.  You must have 130W to run the system at full speed.

Dell shipped the Inspiron with either 90w or 130w AC power adapter.  All answers are moot until OP selects a monitor and realizes PD 65w or 90w be accepted by the 7610 and will default back to the first comment to keep AC adapter always plugged in.

It's more of preference usage than a solution to an issue.
