Inspiron 15-3543, RAM upgrade, power consumption
Hey. I'm planning to upgrade my RAM in Inspiron 3543 (i5) model. Can I just go with any DDR3L modules?
Is there anything else I have to take care of choosing the DDR3L RAM like the power compatibility with the laptop itself?
Thanks :)

The 2014 Inspiron 15-3542/3543 have only one memory slot that supports up to 8GB, DDR3L, 1600MHz, Unbuffered, Non-ECC sodimm memory.
Inspiron 15-3543 validated 8GB memory stick Dell part number = 3FX6M

Well not just any. The following site is Crucial where you can match the memory to your system. The memory specs are DDR3L 1600. And you have 1 memory slot which will take a maximum of 8GB. So 1 8GB memory module.

So only DDR3L 1600 MHz models compatible? But the site you referred also show 1866 MHz models to be compatible. I'm confused.

Dell specs are up to 1600 Mhz. Even if you could use 1866 you would probably not see a difference between the two. In that instance the system would run 1866 at 1600. Not confusing, Dell specifies 1600 so go with the memory specified for your system.

Crucial now has 16Gb 1600 single-slot SODIMM available. Will this work with this motherboard?

Dual channel requires two matched modules - which you can't have in this system.
Running CATIA software on a low-end budget system like this -- if it's even possible -- will require a vast amount of patience on your part.
