G7 7790 maximum storage capacity

Hi everyone,

Not sure it s the correct topic section but I could not find the G serie topic.

I'm looking to upgrade my Dell G7 7790 with a new M.2 SSD and was wondering about the maximum supported storage capacity. I’ve checked the user and service manuals and it is written up to 1To but this seems strange to me.

Can anyone confirm whether the Dell G7 7790 can support M.2 SSDs larger than 2TB, such as a 4TB SSD?

Additionally, are there any specific requirements or limitations I should be aware of when choosing an M.2 SSD for this laptop?

Can I plug a PCiE 4.0 for example even if it will not "use" the full speed ?

Thanks in advance for your help ! :)

The specifications in user manual is the max storage capacity Dell had tested and validated to be sold with the system.  The real world capacity is much higher and up to what available in the market.  A 4TB should work with your system.

You can certainly use PCIe gen 4 SSD and it will be operated at the speed of system storage controller is rated for .  Seldomly, certain products got rejected by the system but it was not due to capacity.  Users managed to get it works with different models/brands
