Can Inspiron 15 5505 be charged via USB-C?
I'm about to buy a 65 Watt USB-C charger for this but wanted to make sure it will work for me. I read the documentation but don't understand it.
Thanks for your help.

The online Inspiron 15 5505 Setup and Specifications shows the Dell supported/validated way to charge the battery =
Yes, the USB 3.2 Gen 1/Type-C port does support two way power supply between devices. But, it will not charge the battery completely. So the posted configurations above and those 3rd party chargers are not supported by Dell.

Dell says it can't, but there was another thread https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/Charging-via-USB-C-port/td-p/7187214 where they did succeed? It's not completely clear there either.
I'm guessing this is so you don't have to lug around that large power cord?

Thanks for the link.
Yes I would prefer to only use one charger for both my phone and laptop.

I guess it will. Because I can even charge mine from a power bank!
I also use a type C monitor which has power delivery (65W) and it charges the laptops simultaneously.

I know this is probably a bit late, but yes, it can charge via USB-C.
In my case, I purchased an Anker Powerport III 65W Pod Lite charger then daisy chained that to Anker's PowerExpand+ Hub that supports PD. The hub then plugged into the lone USB-C port and low and behold, power!
In my case, I have separate work and personal laptops and it started to look like a rat's nest on my desk with all those cables and power cables... This helps simplify my setup greatly when swapping between the two.
Hope this helps!

Follow-up on my earlier post - I'm not sure why I never encountered this before, but when booting up today, I was presented with a low wattage warning with my configuration.
Through the USB-C hub, it was complaining that it was only detecting a 45w charger.
Oddly, directly connecting it still led to a complaint about having only a 60w charger even though the one I bought was rated 65w.
I think the takeaway is that, it can charge via the USB-C port, but you may need to get a higher watt charger rather than the one I mentioned earlier.

Follow-up to my follow-up - After some trial and error, I figured out what was going on.
The Anker Powerport III 65W Pod Lite charger that I bought apparently does output at 65w. The Anker cable that was bundled with my charger apparently does not... it maxes out at 60w... which explains the error when it was directly wired to the laptop. This observation was confirmed by their support team.
When I used the Anker charger with a different cable (in my case, an Apple USB-C charging cable), the warning went away and all was good in the world. Honestly, I'm not sure who thought it was a smart idea to pair a 65w charger with a 60w cable...
At any rate, since I wanted to also use the PowerExpand+, it seems 15w is used/lost when daisy chaining (60w - 15w = 45w) so this charger wasn't going to work for my needs. I ended up buying a higher wattage charger (96w Apple USB-C charger from OWC), and it has been working correctly so far and supplying enough power (96w - 15w = 81w).
So long story short... 1) yes, Dell Inspiron 5505 does support USB-C charging, 2) Anker Powerport III 65w is fine if you just need a replacement charger AND if you buy an appropriate cable, 3) if you are wanting to chain it to a usb-c hub with PD, you probably need to buy a higher wattage charger.

I don't get the "But, it will not charge the battery completely."
Does this mean it just stops charging at some % charge, or was the intent to say that it charges slower than the AC adapter, or that the power supplied via USB-C cannot keep up with the power draw when the laptop is in use?

My 5V/3.0A USB C phone charger somehow charging (or least recognized).
But 5V/1A charger and cable which have capacity of 5V/3A combination doesn't recognized.

Thanks for your post Dave. Can you tell me exactly which Anker's PowerExpand+ Hub you purchased? There are several different ones on Amazon. TIA

@DeltaPilot77 Apologies for the very late response, but in the highly unlikely chance that you are still waiting on an answer, I bought the Anker 7-in-1 Power Hub (Anker Model A8346).

Hello everyone, do you think an anker 747 powerbank would be able to charge it?
