Inspiron 5400 AIO Xe graphics has a problem until

i7 11th gen

was working

has cracked screen and was using HDMI external monitor

recently did a complete wipe of Dell ssd and reinstall of Win10

but device mgr says Xe graphics driver is stopped b/c Windows found a problem

does this mean motherboard is defective too related to cracked screen

screen is more cracked than before leaving < 50% area functioning

after a few days I installed a sata hdd with Win 10 and left it on ethernet internet

somehow I did a restart which on its own started flashing bios and Intel ME followed by flashing some other strange FW (half hidden by cracked screen so I can not tell what it is)

after successful FW flash on its own, Xe graphics works again.

quite strange.

any one has insight?

also BIOS still has Supportassist option, but I have wiped Dell ssd of all image etc. partition, does this mean SA is just an option in name now, and is actually not existing in real?

I used SA before on it to restore factory OS, but has since decided to wipe it clean

My guess is a Windows reboot during update can repair many issues.  Combine that with a firmware update, that would explained the self-repaired driver.

Other guess is, Support Assist in firmware just as a disconnected, shell menu.  If you decide to run any command, it will trigger request for download and self-install to provide full functions again.

I would like to mention that before AIO boots into Windows there is only video on the integrated display which is cracked and affects visibility of BIOS too. Without the Xe graphics the pc is running basic Microsoft video driver which does not support multiple monitor so there is no HDMI video sent out to external monitor.

I could purchase a replacement screen but the risk of causing more cable damage during old display disconnection is a concern. I plan to connect the external hdmi monitor for now.
