Inspiron 3910 psu motherboard connectors

240w psu KK2Y8 has two 4 pin + one 8 pin white connectors for motherboard, although 3910 mobo has only one 4 pin and one 8 pin socket.

the three power ratings of 3901 psu are likely compatible with Optiplex 3000 tower (motherboard also has 8+4 pin)

NB: the following table in Dell 3910 spec appears to be erroneous

Table 1. Power supply connector180 W (80 PLUS Bronze)

  • One 4 pin connector for processor
  • One 8 pin connector for system board

240 W (80 PLUS Bronze)

  • Two 4 pin connectors for processor
  • One 8 pin connector for system board

300 W (80 PLUS Platinum)

  • Two 4 pin connectors for processor
  • One 8 pin connector for system board

Actual pic of 3910 300w psu shows 8+4 pin, not 8+4+4 pin.

Is 3910 motherboard compatible with higher power 400 w and 500 w Dell psu for Optiplex 3000/7000, or 460w psu for XPS 8950.  all these psu use new Dell proprietary 8 pin connectors (different pinout from old Dell 8 pin for 3020/9020 or Inspiron 3650).

3910 motherboard has 8+4 pin, whereas 7000/5000/8950 psu have 8+4+4 pin.

But 3910 240/300w psu also have 8+4+4 pin.  This suggests one may be able to upgrade 3910 psu to 400, 460, or 500w.  This is still a speculation based on incomplete evidence.

In previous Dell proprietary psu iteration, the 7080/7090/8940 psu that have 6+4+4 pin is reported to be incompatible with Dell motherboard that has 6+4 pin.

the color code for the 8 pin are

gray purple purple red
brown blk blk blue

This is the part number for the 400W: XYD3F

and for the 500w the part number is VFFKJ

Do you know the 500 watt power supply's pinout? Does it have PCIe connectors? You have pictures? Sorry. Gotta lot of questions.

Pinout only partially known. Yes it has PCIe connectors. Here is pic of 500w 92% Efficient, 80 Plus Platinum psu in Optiplex 7000.  It has 8 pin PCIe to support RTX3070
