Inspiron 3020 desktop i7 13th generation died after installing graphics card

Bought Inspiron 3020 desktop i7 13th generation built-in graphics ( no pcie card). It has 180 watt ps with the 8 pin plug for a graphics card. Installed graphics card and it worked for a few minutes and then wouldn't boot. Stayed locked on the Dell Logo unless I unplugged the 8 pin to the card and rebooted. It worked ok but of course it couldn't find the card. Then it would not boot at all. The only life was the power switch light would light as long as I kept the button pressed but would go out if I released it. Did power supply self test and green light comes on for a few seconds. I can start the supply manually by grounding the blue on the motherboard plug. I get 12 volts to the motherboard but nothing on the harddrive power plug. I have unplugged everything except the motherboard and removed memory. Nothing changed. I don't have a warranty because I bought it at an auction. Did I kill the motherboard?

I thought the 180w stock psu only has white 8 pin for motherboard and white 4 pin for cpu socket on mobo.  there is no black 6 or 8 pin PCIe connector for graphics card.

even if you bought it not from Dell directly, the service tag still carries warranty depends on how long it was on original purchase.  check it on Dell website.  if still within warranty period you can send it back for repair or replacement.  they do not fix water spill damage or traumatic damage.

can you send the DP/N of your psu?  maybe it is 300 or 460w?  https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/inspiron-3020-desktop/inspiron_3020_ss/power-ratings?guid=guid-75256e01-d28f-4ceb-8cf9-c6a6870a7aab&lang=en-us

good luck.  Dell should take care of your motherboard if it is not working right.

Thanks for the information on the power supply. I went to the Dell website and it looks like it is in warranty till next year. <removed private info>

Small correction on CPU. It's i7 13th generation. Windows 11 Pro. I know that doesn't matter but I wanted to clarify anyway.

Dell sent someone to my house today and he replaced the motherboard at no charge because it was in fact still under warranty even though I bought it at an auction. Thanks so very much for informing me that it was probably under warranty. I was ready to buy a motherboard and replace it myself. You saved me a lot of money and I am very grateful.
