Inspiron 24 5475 AIO M.2 slot PCIe version?

Can anyone tell me the PCIe version of my M.2 PCIe x4 slot? Inspiron 24 5475 AIO, shipped Apr 2018.

I ask because I intend to install an NVMe SSD. I'm also having trouble figuring out the max capacity. The Dell "Setup & Specifications" guide is sparse on details. It tells me that it supports throughput up to 16Gbps, which corresponds to PCIe 2.x. However, I would expect a system shipped in early 2018 (presumably not built too long before that?) would have *at least* 3.x, if not 4.0...?

The specs also state a max supported capacity of 256GB. However, the site links me to Crucial for additional accessories--and Crucial's "guaranteed to work in your system" list goes up to 1TB. Since I'm trying to future-proof as much as possible, I'd like to go as big as possible--which, in practice, appears to be 2TB right now. But, will it work??

I got Win10 to fess up that the motherboard is Dell 0YGR09, v. A00; but I can't get it to tell me anything about the PCIe beyond its existence. Can anyone point me to the version and/or the "real" max capacity for an M.2 MVMe SSD?

Thanks!

M2 is a socket specification.

Does not specify PCI-E.

M.2 cards may include:

  • A combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth cards
  • A SanDisk SSD that uses the SATA bus
  • An Intel SSD that also uses the PCIe bus
  • A  SSD AHCI using PCIe lanes (x4) version 2.1 or 3.0

B keyed M2 are Sata.   M key only is PCI-E.

Thanks for the reply!

Understood that M.2 refers to the physical socket.

As I consider my options for an NVMe PCIe x4 (with an M.2 form factor, using the "M" key), I believe I need to know what version of PCIe the slot and/or motherboard use--yes/no?  That's the info I can't seem to find, along with any consistent "max size" capacity for an SSD using the M.2 slot.

Your first link is where I found the "Setup & Specification" doc I cited--if there's another doc on there with more info, please point me to it.

The second link is good (& interesting) info--but, it doesn't help me understand what version *MY* computer is using.  If some of the info implies it, my apologies, but I'm missing it.

Still hoping for info (or how to find info) on both (a) what version PCIe I have, and (b) any confirmation on a maximum capacity for an SSD installed in the M.2 slot.
