How to upgrade to Windows 11 on Inspiron 7790 AIO?

Inspiron 7790 AIO

Inspiron 7790 AIO

The Windows 11 upgrade via Windows update is not available.

It says "Windows 11, version 22H2 is on its way to your device. There's nothing that requires your attention at the moment. Once the update is ready for your device, you'll see it available on this page." It has been saying this for many months now. Clicking on the "Learn more" link takes me to

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/release-health/known-issues/browse/?WT.mc_id=win11update&OsVersion=22621&terms=ref%3A41291773

So it looks like there were issues but 2 have been resolved and the 3rd does not apply to my computer (as it only affects Intel 11 Gen CPUs and my i7-10510U is 10th Gen apparently).

The Inspiron 7790 is listed in Dell's tested and compatible with Windows 11 list.

Has anyone else with this computer successfully upgraded to Windows 11? And does anyone know the best way for me to proceed?

If you're running Windows 10, it should be a simple plug and play. You just download it. Open it once it's downloaded and that should be all you have to do. I don't know if you need to delete the old OS, but Microsoft would certainly know. Check their site. As a matter of fact, when you're downloading from them, they're system pretty much does everything for you, or tells you what you need to do next. Good luck and have a great day!

I had that problem on a Win 11 upgrade.  I did an "in place upgrade" to get around whatever problems I had.

Here is the procedure from elevenforum:

@A Chris  - And I'd image the boot drive with Win 10 on it before updating to Win 11, so you're protected against disaster and/or if you decide you want to go back to Win 10, which will be supported until Oct-2025.

You can use Macrium Reflect (free) to image all partitions on the boot drive and save the image on an external USB HDD. Select Macrium's option to validate the image as soon as it's created, before you start the imaging process.

Also, use Macrium to create the bootable USB stick you'd need if you ever want to revert to the Win 10 image.

It was super simple in the end.

I followed @RoHe 's advice and first of all backed up my C drive and then downloaded the upgrade assistant from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 and it was seemless. Dunno what problem Windows Update thought I would have but (touch wood) so far so good.

Thanks all for the advice.

@A Chris  Glad that went well for you!

Now make an image of the latest Win 11 install, and continue making them on a routine basis, as backups...
