Bios > Security > TPM toggle not accessible Inspiron 7777

MS Dell 7777 Bios Security Screen-TPM is disabled-can't access-compressed.jpg

I'm trying to set up my 2019 Inspiron 7777 to be ready to upgrade to Windows 11. My goofy BIOS set-up won't let me do anything with the TPM settings, which I need to get Window 11. I'm fairly sure from Dell's website that this PC came with TPM 2.0 installed, so how do I enable it! The TPM toggle is "greyed out" (I know it's really black instead of blue but I don't want to say "blacked out"). I can't figure out what BIOS' problem is.

Is BIOS setup as "legacy"?  It needs to be UEFI to enable TPM.

Also, if its setup as legacy and you want to convert to UEFI the drive must be reformatted to GPT.

As was already said, you have to disable Legacy Option ROMs in BIOS setup before you can enable TPM.

And your image shows that it's Enabled...

Thanks, I'll try disabling the Legacy Option ROMS. I was wondering about those and whether they were getting in the way.

I got the Legacy Option ROMs disabled and was able to enable the TPM!!! (It seems so obvious now, but I was afraid to make changes in the BIOS I didn't understand.) Thanks again for giving me the kick I needed!

@convex02  - If Legacy Options ROM is disabled and TPM is enabled in BIOS setup, you should have no trouble directly upgrading from Win 10 to Win 11.  You shouldn't have to reformat your drive(s).

Dell fully supports Win 11 on Inspiron 7777. If the update to Win 11 doesn't install all the drivers you need, put your Service Tag in on the Support page (don't post Service Tag here), and it will offer you the drivers. NOTE: Win 11 may install newer drivers than the ones on Dell's site so use the latest ones unless there's a problem.

BTW: Microsoft will support Win 10 until Oct'2025 so there's really no immediate need to upgrade to Win 11.
