How can I get a copy of Primus KB article emc95302?

An EMC tech support person says I should read Primus KB article emc953027. This article answers several gatekeeper questions I have. Can someone explain how / where I can locate this article? I've searched Powerlink with no luck.

Thanks!

Hopefully one of the EMC folks can get it for you. I would go back to the support person who told you to reference this Primus. Although Some of the support folks don't seem to realize it there are definitely some Primus articles that we (as customers) can't access directly.

I run into this probably once every month or two. I just go back to my case owner an get them to e-mail me the contents of the Primus. If you have local CE they should be able to get it for you as well.

Ah as I was posting I noticed that you indeed meant emc95302. This article does have an audience of everyone so you should be able to see it in Powerlink.

The following is a Primus(R) eServer solution:

ID: emc95302
Domain: EMC1
Solution Class: 3.X Compatibility

Goal How do I find out if I have any available gatekeepers left?

Goal How do I find gatekeepers with command line Solutions Enabler

Goal How do I find gatekeepers

Goal Command to locate free gatekeepers

Goal What do I do if I run out of available gatekeepers?

Fact EMC SW: EMC ControlCenter

Fact EMC SW: Solutions Enabler SYMCLI

Symptom No gatekeeper devices available when attempting to establish a configuration lock

Symptom EMC ControlCenter alert: no gatekeeper devices are available

Symptom EMC ControlCenter alert: 1 gatekeeper available

Symptom Solutions Enabler complains that no gatekeeper devices are available

Symptom Error msg: Error opening the gatekeeper device for communication to the Symmetrix

Cause A configuration lock is already set on the Symmetrix

Cause No gatekeepers are assigned to the host running the Storage Agent for Symmetrix

Cause No available gatekeepers

Cause Only 1 available gatekeeper left

Fix
Steps to resolve the issue:

1. This command will return a list of Symmetrix arrays and their current configuration lock status: symcfg -lockn 15 list. See solution emc91997 if the status is LOCKED.

2. Assign Gatekeeper devices to the host. This command will list all the devices with a capacity of 3 MB which is the normal size of a gatekeeper that are not assigned to any host: symdev list -sid xxxx -CAP 3 -noport. See solution emc100397 to map devices with Solutions Enabler or emc78806 to map devices with EMC ControlCenter.

NOTE: If no devices appear in the list, there may be no available gatekeeper devices. For information on creating new gatekeeper devices, see emc102144.

Note The following error is found in the SYMAPI log file:

08/17/2004 00:00:13.000 2668 3192 EMC:ECC SymDiscover() Function start
08/17/2004 00:00:14.000 2656 1688 EMC:ECC SymDiscover() Function start

emc953027 is not a valid solution id. At the time of this post, Primus articles are numbered in the 220 thousands. (ie emc220000). Is there an extra digit in there that shouldn't be?

You guys are very good. :)

Should you ever get a "primus" or KB / knowledgebase article reference in the future, you can use this URL prefix to get to it:

http://csgateway.emc.com/primus.asp?id=

in your case, http://csgateway.emc.com/primus.asp?id=emc95302

Hope this helps!

this link works for only the primus cases that you have access to.  Soo for most of us, that would mean "customer" primus solutions.

That is correct, and we do try to be cognizant of the issue but sometimes we don't see the audience or secured data.

Generally, EMC wants to push information to be viewable to the customer especially information that can help you figure out configuration, setup, common issues, tips & tricks, or problems.  We author these knowledgebase articles with that principle in mind.  The author submits it to be technically reviewed by a colleague.  Many of us here on the Forums perform that work.  Many of us have rejected or sent back articles because they were restricted and should have been customer viewable and sometimes the opposite if the circumstances are particularly intricate and could cause a DU/DL situation.  However, even those situations we make a serious effort to have public (that is customer viewable) information about an issue.  We a great deal of flexibility in securing data in our knowledgebase articles, right down to the statement.

If you get a link to a knowledgebase article and cannot view it, I suggest you open a service request for the product in question to discuss the issue with EMC Support.

If it looks incomplete, we can review the KB Article here and see if it perhaps has some secured data in the article.  If so, again we would almost certainly want to refer you to a service request so that the correct resource from EMC can guide you appropriately.

Please don't hesitate to ask right here on the forums too.  Thanks for reminding us of this.

Best regards,

Dave Yates
