raid policy for PS6100 with 12 Disk > 1TB ?

hello,

new on Dell equalogic and i have to create the configuration for member raid policy.

i want to create a raid 50 with those 12 disk (i have just one member)

from document: Dell PS Series Storage: Choosing a Member RAID Policy page 26 we can see:

RAID 50 is not recommended for arrays with 1 TB or larger disks. The Dell Group Management GUI will not allow for any members with 3 TB or higher to be configured with RAID 50 (firmware 7.0.0 and higher)

but this document refer to "PS4210, PS4100 and PS4110 12-disk RAID Set Relationship"

is this the same fo PS6100 storage bay ?

which raid policy can i create with 12 dik > 1TB ?

thank you in advance.

Hello,

You put this question in the FluidFS forum which is a NAS product.   There is s specific forum for EqualLogic here as well.

Regardless of the model number, the recommendation is that any model array with 1TB or great SATA/NL-SAS 7200RPM drive not use RAID5 or 50.   This is because as the drives get larger and larger the rebuild times get longer and longer.  Increasing the risk of a failure of another drive caused a double faulted condition..  RAID50 is two RAID5 RAIDsets striped together.  So the risk is the same as a RAID5.   SAS 10K/15K are still smaller and the rebuild times are less.

You can set RAID5 or RAID50 is you wish and understand the risks.  It just can no longer be done via the GUI it has to be done via the CLI.

Regards,

Don
