SAN COPY Pull Migration Question (Equilogic Migration To Unity)

Hi All,

We are migrating from a Dell EqualLogic 6100E to a Dell Unity380 Storage Array.  We have some iSCSI LUNS on the EqualLogic that we need to migrate to a Unity 380. Trying to figure out the best way to migrate these volumes.  One of our windows servers uses these volumes and connects up via iscsci initiator.  One option would be to do a Robocopy, but then we would need to add multiple logical disks on the server to mirror the LUNS. Seems like a lot of work. A simpler option to me would be the "SAN COPY PULL" method which would link the Equalogic with the Unity, and then just simply moving the volumes over to the disk pool.

Is the "SAN Copy Pull" migration a possible solution with the EqualLogic?  I have not been able to find any information online to confirm this.

Any help would is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Hello Bob,

There is no direct SAN-to-SAN option from EQL to Unity.   For Compellent you can replicate from EQL to Compellent but nothing like that for EQL to Unity.   It will need to be host based copy, or backup and restore.

 Sorry.

Regards,

Don

Hi Don,

That's what I thought. Thanks for the reply and for confirming this can't be done.

Best,

Bob
