PS6100 Sensor Temperature Below Critical Threshold Errors

We have a PS6100 that recently started throwing 28.4.7/28.4.8/28.4.9 errors that specify that the "Control module chipset/processor/SAS controller sensor temperature of 0C is below the critical threshold of 5C."  These errors started shortly after replacing a model 70-0400 controller card in slot 0 from a third party warranty service (Dell support is of course long ago expired).  The event log shows that the error clears roughly thirty seconds later.

Any thoughts?

Hello,

What FW is that array using?   Sounds like a few years old?

Don

Just a "few" -- V6.0.5.  I suspect it's the FW that shipped from the factory.

Thanks,

Greg

Hello,

Re: FW. v6.05. Ouch. That is very old.   Are you running VMware ESX  by chance?   That version is vulnerable to VMFS Datastore metadata overwrite.  Fixed in versions 6.0.6-H2 and above.  There are certain conditions under high load that could result in offline VMFS Datastores.

Don

Yes -- running VMware 7.  We have a pair of 6100s that are still being used for non-critical storage.  And now that you mention it I do have a 15TB volume used by Veeam for backups of some less critical VMs that has gone offline perhaps twice in the past six months.

Hello,

If you hit the issue you would know, as the VMFS Datastores would no longer be accesible at all.

FYI: VMware 7 is not certified with any verison of EQL FW.

If the offline events were very short term and corrected themselves it's likely a known issue in that very old firmware.

 Regards,

Don
