Dell SAN HQ has stopped monitoring IOPS
SAN: Equallogic PS6100
We experienced a long power outage on Feb 15. Normally that doesn't concern me as we have a Generac generator that is supposed to kick in when it sees our power going down. Unfortunately that generator did not kick in, it was frozen due to extreme cold temperatures. When power was restored and the SAN came back up I noticed that SAN HQ was no longer actively tracking IOPS on its volumes.
We use PRTG to monitor our network. It also monitors volumes on this SAN. Prior to the power outage it was able to monitor volumes for things like Average Read Latency, Read Ops, Write Ops, etc. Now it is only seeing general things like Downtime, Availability and Operations Status.
I've read through several guides about SAN HQ and searched all over the internet to find a solution as to why it is no longer monitoring the statistics that I need to see. I have not found a solution.
Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong and what I might do to fix the problem? The only thing I have not tried at this point is to reboot the device. Difficult to do when you are a 24/7 company and virtual servers need to remain powered on.

Quick update to close this thread. I recently had reason to restart the SAN controllers. This resulted in SAN HQ returning to its normal state of monitoring all IOPS for all volumes.

Hello,
That's not an issue I have seen before. Best option would be to open a support case so the logs can be gathered from the array and SANHQ to best triage the issue.
What firmware and version of SANHQ are you using?

Don

I don't think I can open a support case, this SAN has no current support from Dell as it is too old (8 years). We had to go through a 3rd party to get hardware support. We'll be replacing our infrastructure later this year.
Firmware is v9.1.4 release 443182
SAN HQ version is 3.5.0.10757

Hello,
You might still be eligible for a Post Standard Support (PSS) contract. That would also give you access to current firmware.
Good luck.

I still have access to download current firmware and SAN HQ software, I just don't have a support contract and this issue isn't enough for me to pay a bunch of money for a support contract I won't be using. As to updating the firmware on the SAN that's extremely difficult as we are a 24/7 company and taking down servers is not an option very often. Basically during the Christmas holiday is about the only time I can do that.

Hello,
Re: Access. You may still have an account but without a support contract from Dell you don't have a license to use the software or any of the bundled software for the PS Series that are OOW. It's something you acknowledge when you download the software or firmware.
