Hi Galv,

Welcome to the Dell Community.

I would suggest you to run diagnostics on the computer which will isolate the issue.

1. Restart the computer and tap F12 key to access One Time Boot Menu
2. Highlight Boot to Utility Partition and hit Enter to start the diagnostics

Please make a note of the error code if you get any.

Please provide the following details:

1. Yellow light is blinking or stable?
2. Is it on the power button?
3. System Model

Thanks & Regards

"Is the yellow light related to my hardware error" No, this is the standby power light.

The standby power light [aka Flea Power] indicates that the motherboard has +5VFP power reaching it and being lite is normal.

To turn the light off, power the computer off, remove the power cord from the power supply and hold the power button in for about 15/20 seconds, but when the computer is booted up, the light will again be lite.

Regards to the hardware issues you are having, I suggest that you contact the seller about them ASAP

If it's on the motherboard, as I posted, it could be the 'Standby' Power LED.

Check the power button LED, what colour is it and is it blinking or solid?

Are there any 'Beeps'?

Often the Dell desktop model number, is listed on the front panel.

There should be label on the computer case, listing the Service Tag that should help you identify the model, then go to the following Dell site and enter it,

no beeps no model number apart from studio xps, no service tag,  Bev the computer turns on, but shuts down after 2 mins, the computer works, but crashes, so technically it doesn't work but  it does run. the light is amber, and solid

Without either the service tag, or the computer model number, there's is very little I can do to troubleshoot the system.

Dell has the following XPS Studios desktops,

435MT

435T / 9000

7100

8000

8100

9100

For more info,.go here:

Without the model number, all I can suggest, is that you contact the 'Dell re-builder on e-bay', you purchased the computer from.

I am having similar issues with my Inspiron 5900? series Desktop. Green PSU light, orange MB light, but following a VERY SHORT power spkie at my house I can't turn the computer on.  I checked the 24 wire plug coming from the PSU to the motherboard with a multi meter and the green wire provides a +4 reading.  Not sure if this is a PSU issue, Mother Board issue, or simply a pwoer button problem.  NOTHING works right now, fans, beeps, drives, nothing.

HELP!!

Most modern power supplies have 2 systems a 20W 5v standby linear power supply which lights up the flea on the motherboard and a switching power supply.  Your power supply is DEAD and that's why it wont turn on. The Yellow light on the board and the green light on the back are indication of AC power available not an indication of GOOD working power supply.
