USB keyboard: "Keyboard not found" after used on Playstation 3, plugged into the wrong usb and rebooted

First of all, sorry if i posted this in the wrong place and sorry if my english is bad, I'm a french speaker (living in CAN).

Now, here's my problem: I can't boot my computer anymore. Whenever I press the power button, it "beeps" 3 times then another 4 times (for a total of 7). Then the Dell loading screen appears but it stops and i get a black screen where it basically says "Keyboard not found".In details, it says:

Usb devices: 1 mouse
Auto detecting ahci port 0
Auto detecting ahci port 2
Sata port1
Sata port 3
s.m.a.r.t capable and status ok.
Auto detecting usb mass storage devices
00 usb mass storage devices found and configured

Keyboard not found
cmos settings wrong
cmos date time not set
press F1 to run setup
press F2 to load default values and continue

Since I can't press any key (never) I can't skip that.

Like written on my subject, I used it on my Playstation 3 before. I unpluged it while the computer was running, to plug it in my ps3. I used it on my ps3 for 30-45 mins, working perfectly. Then I unplugged it and plugged it in -another- usb on my computer, tried to press keys but nothing was working. So I rebooted my computer and I got this message.

So I switched of USB I tested all 8 of them and none works.
Since my mouse was detected, I tried to switch the keyboard with the mouse. Once again the keyboard wasn't detected but the mouse still was.
I tried with another USB keyboard (exactly the same as mine) and it still wasn't working.
My friend told me to open the box and take off the lithium battery from the motherboard and put it back (to reset the Bios I think? I'm not good with computers) but It didn't help. The difference was that instead of "beeping" 3 times, it started beeping 7 times. I think the message changed too.

I'm not really sure but I don't think I have a plug for the old keyboards, so I can't really test it with an old one. So I'm stuck. Other than that, my computer was working perfectly. Now I don't know what to do. I searched on the forums but what I found didn't help me much. I don't know what my computer is. I just know that when I boot it's written Studio XPS. I'm on Win 7-64. My computer is one year old.

Any suggestion?
Thanks for your help!
Marie

There must be a number that goes with "Studio XPS" like 7100, 8100, etc. Look on the tower for a label with your Service Tag number. Then go to support.dell.com, put that Service Tag number in and it'll tell you exactly what model PC you have. That way we can figure out what the beeps are telling us. For example 7 beeps on the Studio XPS 8100 means the processor failed. :emotion-6:

Is it possible you damaged the USB port when you disconnected the keyboard? Power off and unplug. Look carefully into all USB ports to see if any of them are bent out of shape or if any of the contacts are touching each other.

You can also try this.

Power off and unplug.

Press/hold power button on tower for ~15 sec.

Open the case and remove the motherboard battery.

Press/hold power button again for ~30 sec.

Leave it unplugged for a while.

Re-install the battery (right-side-up!) and see if it boots now with only mouse, monitor and keyboard attached.

Hi ,

Here's what I suggest,

1. Unplug compter from power source.

2. uplug all USB devices.

3. Press and hold in the power on/off button for about 20 secs.

4. Connect mouse/keyboard and any other USB devices befor powering on.

5. See what happens

Thanks for your reply!

Unfortunately I just tried it, hoping it would work but it didn't. It changed absolutely nothing.

Thanks anyway.

Go to Device Manager, right-click on Keyboard >select uninstall> power off> connect keyboard > power on.

Ugh... How am I supposed to go into Device Manager if I can't boot my computer?

That is exactly my problem... I can't use my computer anymore because I'm stuck with this message!

That black screen with keyboard not found simply won't go away.

Wow just trying to find the place where to enter the tag number was complicated. I ended up in the chat with a technician section. So I went on google and typed "dell support tag number". The first website I clicked I entered and It was saying your Studio XPS Desktop 435T/9000 warranty is about to expire.

So I imagine that's what I have because the case looks like mine. So I have a Studio XPS Desktop 435T/900.

I tried removing the motherboard battery before. That's when it started beeping 7 times instead of 3. I didn't try it with pressing the power button though so I'm going to try it again.

For the damaged USB's I don't think It's the answer because I'm careful when It comes to my desktop but I checked anyway with a flashlight and it didn't seem to be damaged.

If your warranty is about to expire, you should contact Dell Tech support right away!  Tell them the problems you have. This could be a major (expensive) problem and you'll want Dell to fix it before the warranty expires!

Are the beeps in a group of 3 and then a group of 4, or some other pair of groups totally 7? 3 beeps means motherboard failure and 4 beeps means memory failure on the XPS 435T/9000.

So like I said, contact Dell Tech Support and have your Service Tag number ready for the tech.

Good luck!

Me again...

If you try removing the motherboard battery again, you probably should check to see that the RAM modules are correctly seated in their slots. It's possible you disolodged them the last time you tried removing the battery which might account for the beeps you hear.
