Error with itunes (MSVCR80.dll) is missing

I'm trying to open Itunes and it gives me this error (MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer.  I try to reinstall but same issue.  So I then try to do a factory reset because I haven't done it since getting the pc so why not get a fresh go.  I click the partition that has all that info in it and it will not allow me to.  When the pc was purchased it had Vista on it and I later upgraded to Windows 7.  Dell support said that is the issue that is keeping me from doing a restore.  I did call Dell support and yes I knew my warranty was out but a little fix like this well wishful thinking on my side.   If anyone knows how to fix the itunes problem and let me know how to get the restore taken care of that would be great.  Below is my pc info Dell Studio XPS 435mt

I don't think you can do a PC Restore back to the factory image after you upgraded from Vista to Win 7.

Read section 1, here, that starts:

1. If, and only if, you're receiving the msvcr80.dll is missing error when you open Apple iTunes, do the following: (skip this step if your msvcr80.dll error is occurring with a different program)...

I'm having the identical problem!  Help!

Download the DOTNET 4.0 stand alone client install and run.

Then do many many many many windows updates manually until it finds no more.

When you build an application in Microsoft Visual Studio, and the application uses the C run-time libraries (CRT), distribute the appropriate CRT DLL from the following list with your application:

• Msvcr90.dll for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008
• Msvcr80.dll for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005
• Msvcr71.dll for Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003 with the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
• Msvcr70.dll for Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2002 with the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0

For Msvcr70.dll or for Msvcr71.dll, you should install the CRT DLL into your application program files directory. You should not install these files into the Windows system directories. For Msvcr80.dll and for Msvcr90.dll, you should install the CRT as Windows side-by-side assemblies.

I skipped step 1 initially because the error message appeared at start-up but after trying many other steps, decided to try step #1. (duh!)  After all, the problem began with an iTunes update a few days back.  After I deleted all the iTunes/Apple programs in the order you listed, then downloaded iTunes from your link, everything is working perfectly!  THANK YOU!

Sorry for the delay guys.  I was able to get mine to work after deleting all apple software off my pc  and the reinstalling.  I didn't do it in any order just the first one I saw and so on.  Thanks everyone.

Ron-  Question for you on a side note.  I thought about doing a factory reset just cause.  I've heard you should do it every so often.  When I bought my pc it had vista on it.  I upgraded to windows 7.  When I try to factory reset from the recovery partition it will not allow me to.  Can I not go back once I have upgraded?  If you can how can I do it?

Changing windows to 7 breaks the recovery permanently.

When you upgraded to Win 7, the Master Boot Record got rewritten so you can't access the recovery partition. Besides, even if you could still access that partition, it would take you back to Vista and then you'd have to upgrade to Win 7 again. What a hassle...

The only way now to refresh the OS would be a clean install. Back everything up on external media, wipe the drive and do a clean Win 7 install. Don't know if you bought full Win 7 or an upgrade disk. If it's an upgrade disk it might not allow you to do a clean install. You might have to load Vista first and upgrade again...but you should check on that.

Unless there are problems, eg slow/poor performance, lots of BSODs,  serious malware, etc. I personally wouldn't start over, but that's my own preference.  A windows system file check (sfc) is a way to keep things clean(er) and I do that every so often on my system. Sfc looks to see that the correct versions of Windows system files are in the right folders and replaces any that are missing or corrupted. Sfc doesn't affect personal files (always good to back up first!) or other software that's been installed.

1. Click start>run
2. Type in: sfc /scannow
3. Click OK
4. Insert Win 7 disk, if requested
5. Have patience because this can take ~30-40 min
6. Note: when sfc is done, it just takes you back to the desktop without any "Complete" or "Error" messages

It was just a windows 7 upgrade not the full one.  When I click on the partition of the hard drive that has the pc restore stuff on it and try to restore it gives me an error.  which means probably a no go then.  I have no disc on the stuff on the hard drive that was pre installed.

For some reason your last post disappeared. As we told you, updating to Win 7 prevents you from restoring the system to the factory image.

You may be able to download an iso file for Vista from Digital River for free (though there seems to be some issues with Microsoft allowing that right now). You'd burn that file on a DVD to create a bootable disk. You then use that to install Vista on your hard drive, using the Microsoft Product key from the sticker on the side of your PC. If you had Vista Home, you can only use that key to install Vista Home,and you can't upgrade to another version of Vista with it.

Once Vista is installed, followed by all the latest hardware drivers, you should be able to use your upgrade disk to reinstall Win 7 again. You'll need the disks and product keys for all your other software, eg Microsoft Office, to reinstall those, but any software Dell provided for free should be available for free download from their site after you log in to your account with your Service Tag.

Alternatively, you could buy a full Win 7 disk from eBay, etc, but be careful only to buy from somebody reputable and make sure it comes with a valid product key, and not one that's been duplicated or stolen.

Well, if you need iTunes, what other choice do you have? But manually set a System Restore point before reinstalling Apple's stuff. That way, if something unexpected happens, you can easily revert to a fully functional state. :emotion-5:

I have had this error several times, I always figure it out, but then when it happens again I forget what I did! So, just happened again tonight, and this time I bookmarked the link and saved the steps.

Here are those steps:-

- Reinstall Microsoft Office
- Resolve Corrupted MSVCR80.dll Related Registry Entries
- Resolve Windows hidden errors with Reginout
- Restore Deleted MSVCR80.dll File
- Check the Status of System Files
- Restore the System
