Dell Optiplex 7050 Connects with three monitors - got unable save display settings issue

Dell Optiplex 7050 Connects with three monitors. Those monitors are the same model (Dell 19 inches).

Dell Optiplex 7050 has three ports (VGA, Displayport, HDMI) for connecting monitors.

Monitor 1 :  VGA - VGA

Monitor 2 : Displayport - Displayport

Monitor 3 : VGA - VGA - VGA to HDMI

Three monitors are working fine with extended mode.

But when I tried to duplicate two of monitors, it will pop up unable save display settings message.

Does anyone know why and how to fix this issue? Thank you!

It may just be a limitation of Intel's on-board video.

If you really have to duplicate 2 screens while running a 3rd, you may have two options:

Install an add-in PCI-e x16 video card that supports 3 monitors in this type of setup.

Or connect a USB>Video dongle for the 3rd monitor.

You'll have to do some homework to make sure any add-in video card will support what you want and you need to find out if this system can take a full-size card or needs a low-height card. Note: On-board video ports may be disabled when there's an add-in video card (manual doesn't say), so the card would have to support all 3 monitors with 2 duplicated.

A USB>video dongle might support this setup with the 2 monitors connected to onboard video duplicated, and the 3rd monitor with different screen connected via USB. You'd need a USB dongle that has an output port matching one the monitor's inputs, eg HDMI (avoid using VGA, if possible). A USB3 dongle will give better performance when connected to a USB3 port on the PC, than a USB2 dongle connected to a USB2 port, but USB3 dongles tend to cost somewhat more than USB2 dongles.

Version of Windows?

Define: "duplicate two of monitors"

Duplicate two of monitors means make two of monitors show the same content at the same time. In the display settings, there are options I can choose, but it will pop up unable save display settings message when I choose it.

Are all three video ports on an add-in NVidia or AMD video card? Or are they all on-board video ports?

What happens if you disconnect the 3rd monitor and then try to duplicate the other 2? If that works, can you then connect the 3rd monitor and show a different screen?

I guess it's possible you can't duplicate 2 screens when 3 monitors are being used...

Dell Optiplex 7050 is a mini tower. three video ports are on one motherboard with intergrated video. Tried to disconnect the 3rd monitor, then duplicate the other 2. It works on only two monitors, put the 3rd one back will break the duplication. It should work on three monitors. Why would not?
