DRM EMC Smart Bootable ISO Deployment Job Failed

I've inherited a PowerEdge R410 with BIOS v 1.12 and am trying to upgrade it to 1.14.  I'm new to PowerEdge and this unit is pretty old so it's been tough to research the proper way to update the BIOS.  I'm trying to create a Bootable ISO image using EMC for a Windows 2012 R2 64 bit deployment but when I export the BIOS .exe update from the repository it fails to create the ISO.  ("Smart Bootable ISO Deployment Job Failed")  It seems to work if I choose the Linux version but I'm not using a Linux OS.  Currently the server has no OS at all.

Hello

If you are going to update from Windows 2012 R2 then just download the executable from the R410 support page and run it from the operating system. The bootable repository export option creates a Linux live image. It boots to a Linux OS that is designed to install the update packages, that is why it will only use Linux compatible updates.

Thanks for the reply...  The server doesn't currently have an OS installed at all.  My plan was to upgrade the BIOS and Firmware before I installed the OS.  Does this mean I can use the Linux ISO to update the BIOS and then install the OS?

That is correct. The Linux iso is the only version that is bootable, so if your system doesnt have an OS on it, you would create the bootable Linux iso, and it should boot from the iso and update the firmwares on the system. Then you can install your windows OS once the fw updates have completed.

I have the ISO created now and it runs during a UEFI boot cycle from USB.  However, it doesn't complete or update the firmware or BIOS.  It gets caught with this message ("bios update signature verification for inventory collector failed") and asks me to reboot.  I found a thread about this but no resolution to the problem.  I tried this using both a BIOS and UEFI boot.  I removed DRM and reinstalled it and recreated the ISO multiple times.  Smart Bootable ISO plugin version is 931 and DRM EMC is 3.2.

Hi,

From the error message, i suspect the failure was due to inventory collector sign file not downloaded properly, there was sign file issue in support site and it was fixed now.

So, can you try once again. I believe it will work now.

Thanks,
