Issues upgrading to 3.10.2.13
Hi all,
I attempted to do an upgrade from 3.10.0.169 to 3.10.2.13 but run in to issues during reboot.
the appliance just continues to sit on "Starting terminate plymouth boot screen" and does not progress. If i go to a second terminal screen i can get the appliance GUI to appear and when checking appliance status all services are inactive apart from Database Service which sits on 'activating'.
For one of the more extreme cases I had left this for 2 hours to give it time. Previous upgrades normally took perhaps 30-45 minutes overall for the first reboot prior to any additional modules being updated.
I had tried the upgrade several times, performed a clean reboot of the appliance first, gave it ample time, nothing worked.
When restoring to the snapshot taken prior to upgrade I would watch the boot and the place where the 3.10.2.13 upgrade gets stuck at (Starting terminate plymouth boot screen) completes within ~10 seconds.
Thanks

Hi, same problem with multiple appliances. you can see after upgrade to latest on that Current Appliance Status that services are changing between active / inactive and website never reaches the point for login to appear...
BTW is there a website with release notes for these appliance updates ?

New OpenManage Appliance install. I don't think you can change what ever it needs ?

I mean when you install Appliance the install routine decides sizes of hard drives on that. And usually you cannot/should not change those...
This was reply to Charles for checking minimun hard drive space....

I had logged a call with support and they have advised I need to re-deploy and restore from a backup as you cannot increase the allocated disk, regardless of there being an option to via the console (configure appliance disk size).
This is quite frustrating as there is no requirement mentioned when performing the update via the OME console that it now has to be 400GB or over. Our deployment is from 2017 where the documented requirement for disk was 200GB for a large environment.
The feedback i got (in summary) was:
"The requirements changed 4-6 versions ago and is still relatively new.
I had a discussion with a senior engineer about this, he advised that expanding disk wont resolve the issue and has recommended deploying a new VM, setup an IP, add plugins and then complete a restore. This will be the quickest and easiest way to move forward. "
So I need to deploy a new instance, patch it to our current running version however we can get that exact version, and recover based on a hunch that it "may" be the issue.

@Dell -Charles R The problem is that it not defined as a requirement when you are going through the motions of upgrade via the GUI. Our deployment is from 2017, the requirements for a large deployment were set to 200GB, 3.4 changed to 250GB.
Old deployments which followed recommended hardware requirements seem to have the issue, however the space requirement for services not starting was based on a hunch from support.
I have yet to schedule time to re-deploy our instance to test the solution, but it would have been great if the upgrade process do a pre-check to verify the minimum requirements are met, and guidance on how to correct issues since the "configure appliance disk size" functionality isn't actually a solution, regardless of there being documentation on disk expansion for OME ...?

And again I did a test and installed a fresh OpenManage appliance from the latest OVA I got my hands on and it worked and after did upgrade from GUI these problems started.
My colleague from same company but different site also noticed OpenManage breaking after applying latest update. Same issues...
Just wondering why is not showing for everyone.

@DELL-Joey C Support indicated even doing the disk expansion pre-upgrade would not help?
I suppose it is worth a try.

Still an issue, would you believe it. The backup and restore function is its own set of issues, cannot restore to a new OME install that replicates the existing one, get a generic error with nothing in debug logs to say what is wrong.
Another engineer recently has advised that the disk expansion should in fact work, i have done this, but again, stuck at the Plymouth booth screen task. Services failing to start.

Hello, I see another case already open for the same by you, I believe it is best you continue working on that as it is with higher level team now. Wish you a great week ahead. Thanks for choosing Dell once again.
