Veeam and Dell Data Domain 6400

What is the best way to setup the retention lock on a Data Domain when using Veeam 12 BR. The goal is poor man's ransomware protection.  Even if it's for a shorter retention then the Veeam Backup jobs themselves.  thanks

You might wanna wait until veeam 12A is released (soon in Q4 2023) which is supposed to integrate with DD retention lock? Instead of using cifs/nfs shares and using autolock? I assume the integration would be with actually using ddboost, as that is what you would want anyways, due to having source deduplication occurring instead of only target side deduplication on the DD end. Combined with retention lock, it might be way easier to set up and maintain, compared to other methods (that still might work) but also need more work to maintain and keep working... How this will be implemented remains to be seen however...

As also mentioned during the keynote presentation in June during veeamOn 2023.

So that you would not need to revert to setups that perform mtree replication (or use autolock), as that then occurs completely outside of the backup product being aware of any copies being available?
https://forums.veeam.com/vmware-vsphere-f24/create-veeam-immutable-copy-on-data-domain-t89360.html which is a one-on-one copy of the Dell whitepaper that is referenced to: https://education.dell.com/content/dam/dell-emc/documents/en-us/2020KS_Steen_Immutable_Data_Protection_for_Any_Application.pdf.

As said, might be worthwhile to wait for 12A for proper integration. The veeam community is only asking for this for years and years...

@DirtyMikeandtheboys I for one would be interested in getting to know your results, once you would be able to look into this...
