Need to free up space - Data Domain

Hi everyone,

I've been searching on the internet for a way to free up space in our Data Domain environment, but I've found nothing. So this is the reason I need your help in this community.

Look at the result of the command filesys show space:

The image below shows the space used in graphical mode:

In a nutshell, I'd like to know if it is possible to decrease space in both red and blue images rounded (I think both are the same space I need to free up).

How can I do this?

Thank you so much

Best wishes

Simple answer: Delete data?

I'd first start with the very basics... what is actually writing to the DD and how? Backup software? Is any data even expiring or being deleted? Or only data added?

So depending on how the DD is used, the way that data is send to the DD, should be in control of what is to be deleted and kept.

So in what way is the DD being used? Neither screenshot gives any indication about that? All in one mtree or even storage unit (if ddboost is used)? multiple backup environments even? so how is it used?

For all Data Domain capacity issues, follow the capacity flowchart PDF document :

When using specifically avamar to backup to datadomain: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/nl-nl/000163001?lang=en "How-To troubleshoot Avamar / Data-Domain Capacity Issues"...

Hi @barry_beckers

Sorry my really late reply. I was involved in another tasks, besides changing my computer. Well, unfortunately, I don't have permission for most of the links you posted, so, I can't checked these links.

We use Avamar Backup to write to the Data Domain. Below I posted a screenshot of our Avamar Dashboard, if it can help somehow:

In conclusion, can I free up data in Data Domain from my Avamar environment? If so, how can I proceed?

Thank you
