Data recovery speed from DD.

Hello, everyone,

I have tried to find information about recovery speed from Data Domain systems in the Internet and Dell support site, but couldn't do it. Is there any official data from Dell or unofficial information what maximum recovery speed can be reached from DD 9400 or DD 9900. Maybe somebody has real experience with such data and can share it?

There is only information about data backup speed to the Data Domains, but not recovery speed in the official sources. It's quite strange.

Thank you in advance!

what "recovery speed" would you be even interested in? As the throughput speeds mentioned for backup are a cumulative number of the whole box.

But would you want to know speeds achieved for individual backup clients as depending on the client and/or the sort of data, the network layout and available bandwidth, it simply "depends"... Also the amount of streams play a part in this as depending on the load, they might behave differently. I'd prefer the DD9900 anytime over the DD9400 as it can handle 1885 simultaneous streams where the dd9400 only can do 800.

Also might depend on if you use a backup product that can leverage ddboost protocol (like Dell's Networker or the power protect data manager or even some 3rd party products) or if you simply dump to the DD via NFS or CIFS, which would be slower as ddboost leverages client side deduplication already instead of only target side dedupe.

So all depends. You know the max throughput for all backups in total, so it is expected to be lower than that.

So as you might have already found for max throughput :
DD9400:
Max Throughput                       Up to 26 TB/hr
Max Throughput (DD Boost)   Up to 57 TB/hr

DD9900:
Max Throughput                       Up to 41 TB/hr
Max Throughput (DD Boost)   Up to 94 TB/hr
