eBay Return - Dell claims I sent empty package
Hello all,
Back in June I went shopping for a new laptop and found something through Dell’s eBay page that I liked, purchased it, and then ended up finding another for a better price from a place in-person.
Didn’t think I would have an issue opening up a return request given both of the vendors are large and I literally didn’t open the box.
I opened my request, and shortly after got a message that the return was approved but was followed up with a message that my account had been suspended for fraudulent activity. Well, I tried to chat with eBay and they told me I was no longer protected with their “buyer protection,” but I was free to send back the package.
I was slightly worried about the suspension and returning since the support seemed unhelpful, and even suggested that if I didn’t receive a refund to open a dispute with my card company.
I shipped off the item and waited for about a week after delivery before trying to see if I could get some help, but got the same unhelpful message that I was no longer protected so I would have to escalate to a dispute.
Opened a dispute, about a month goes by, and eBay responds with that Dell stated I sent an empty envelope, and a big daunting letter that my account had been suspended for high risk/fraud, when literally I was suspended before even shipping off the package. They even suggested that there has been prominent fraud taking place between Dell & eBay transactions, so therefore I was guilty by association.
I’ve responded with basically entailing my shipping details with FedEx showing both package weights were the exact same (~10lb), my chats with the eBay support suggesting to open a dispute, but I’m still worried about having to eat $2000+ for a product I don’t even have anymore.
Glad to share images of the letters via PM, but man this has really ruined my day. I surely thought eBay/Dell would verify my package details instead of just saying I sent an “empty envelope” that weighs over 10lb.

I was able to verify with Dell that the package was received & a refund was issued, but eBay failed to process it on their end.

You should indeed immediately inform your credit card provider or financial institution of the issue. Let them deal with Dell and EBay.

Surely, you can share the conversation with eBay about the refund status of the item returned.
