Symmetrix V-MAX behind SVC

Hi Guys,

We just recently purchase symmetrix v-max SE and want to put it behind the IBM SVC to make the management more easier. The problem is when we present 1TB LUN from v-max to SVC, SVC actually sees 8TB mdisks. My guess the reason is we use all 8 ports on v-max and SVC somehow thinks they're different LUN. Is any settings we need to do, such as SPC-2?

Thanks for your help

We don't have our VMAX virtualized behind SVC, but we do have a DMX-3 that has SVC connections and have never had this particular issue.

If you go to: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/svc/ic/index.jsp and type in VMAX, you will see "Configuring EMC VMAX Systems"

The FA ports settings are as follows:

Option EMC VMAX default setting SAN Volume Controller required setting
SCSI Flags
Negotiate_Reset(N) Disabled Default
Soft_Reset(S) Disabled Default
Environ_Set(E) Disabled Default
HP3000_Mode(B) Disabled Default
Common_Serial_Number(C) Enabled Default
Disable_Q_Reset_on_UA(D) Disabled Default
Sunapee(SCL) Disabled Default
Siemens(S) Disabled Default
Sequent(SEQ) Disabled Default
Avoid_Reset_Broadcast(ARB) Disabled Default
Server_On_AS400(A4S) Disabled Default
SCSI_3(SC3) Enabled Enabled
SPC2_Protocol_Version(SPC2) Disabled Default
SCSI_Support1(OS2007) Enabled Disabled

There are also a lot of other required settings in this section that may help you.

After I disable SPC2, yes, the lun is correct present to SVC. However, another problme.

I used meta volumes, (5 members), SVC had the error 1625. Looks like SVC is expecting 5 mdisks instead of one(metahead). Any solutions?
