Not seeing 8GB storage ports in Fabric

Hello,

I have ran the fiber from the two lower ports on my VNX IO cards to our new 8GB line cards in our MDS 9509 director. I used 10GB laser optimized OM3 (aqua) cables to connect ports from the line card to the I/O card. My ports come up on the switch using "F" port mode, 8GB. I can see the 8GB cabled I/O ports enabled and running at 8GB on the VNX. The WWID's of the I/O ports on the VNX match the FLOGI results of  the 8GB ports turned up on the switch.

The light is blue by the IO ports running at 8GB instead of green for the 4GB ports on the VNX.

The issue is we are not seeing the ports come up as storage ports in the Fabric using the DCMN Gui to allow for zoning. The GUI is running at 5.2c, device manager is running at 5.2c. The IOS code has been upgraded on the A side of the fabric to 5.2(6a). We are upgrading the B side core switch running at 4.2(7a) on Friday.

Why is this happening? I usually see the storage ports right away when they are turned up in device manager in the Fabric.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

ok, change VSAN membership ..that would be strange if that worked because VSAN 1 can be used for zoning as well (not recommended though)

i am not familiar with DCMN (still using Fabric Manager)  but can you create aliases for the ports you just connected ?

Hi Dynamox,

I created alias in device manager, but I don't see even the flogi wwid in the storage port window. DCMN is suprisingly just like FM. I thought it would be way different, but it's the same.

I tried sending a screen shot by replying to the email sent, but it got rejected. I will send try again.

That' for a different VNX. The ports listed for VNX2 are also 4GB ports for the VNX I am working on. We wanted 1/2 and 1/2 connectivity on the VNX2. One half for 4Gb servers, the other half for the new 8Gb edge switches and servers with 8Gb HBAs were are getting soon.

I noticed something, they don't show up because they defaulted to vsan 1, instead of 100 like the others.

Yep, this is so bizarre.

I don't know plus all of our storage is there. I changed the port vsan and it shows up now as 100 when I execute show flogi, but still don't see it. I will logout of DCMN and login. I tried a refresh and that didn't work. Shows up correctly in show flogi database so that is a start.

when i see weirdness in Fabric Manager, i delete the fabric and rediscover it. Not sure if you can do that in DCNM ?

so VNX ports that are connected at 4G rate show up correctly, VNX ports connected to 8G capable blade are not showing up (they do show up in "sh flogi database)  ?
