Hello

You need Extended Fabric licenses on both switches.

You do need ISL cause two switches connected with each other use ISL to form fabric.

Here is table with possible speeds and distances:

You'll need long wave SFPs as well using the same wave length. Make sure you buy the right ones, because they're expensive !!! And pay attention to the distance these SFPs are made for (10km, 80km) because the power of the laser can otherwise blow up the Rx of the other site's SFP. Furthermore you'll need to calculate the damping factor in dB over the distance you are running thse switches on, because of the same reason. If the power is too high to be in the safe margin of the Rx sides, you'll need attenuators to dampen the light a bit.

These are distances in feet, right ? The numbers make no sence to me otherwise....

Should be meters, not kilometers

The distances are in Km. As per avs previous post, 73 Km is the maximun distance for extended ISLs at 8Gb that Brocade supports. But I have been checking the latest EMC Connectrix Config guide (Aug-2011) and it seems that EMC only supports 10Km 8G Long wave SFPs by the moment.

besides, long wave SFPs, you can consider also using normal 8G shortwave SFPs combined with CWDM/DWDM equipments. This is the most common configuration I have seen over the time.

Felipe, you're right. I accidently was thinking about MM instead of SM and even thenm the numbers didn't make any sense. Thanks for pointing it out
