How to run CMCNE with a trial license
Hi There,
I am installing CMCNE 12.1.2 now. In page 110 of the document
it says:
But I cannot find the place that I can choose the version. And once I open CMCNE it says the license has been expired and prompt a window to let me select a license file instead of telling me its a 75 days trial license.
Could you tell me which step I missed or wrong? Thanks a lot.

I had a similar problem. The option for selection the trial license appears only when SAN with SMI Agent is selected. Though the manual says , SMI Agent only option doesn't require a license , the error message stating "Trial license is expired" when we attempt to login after installation.
Here is what I did,
1. Choose SAN with SMI Agent during installation
2. Select Trial license
3. Configure and start the server. This time the SMI agent will be disabled and you cannot enable it.
4. Once the server is UP , then again to the CMCNE Configuration Menu from the Program files , click enabling SMI Agent and save the configuration. This will restart the server automatically.
5. Now everything is up and running . I am able to see the SMI agent running.

I'm not entirely certain if this is the issue, but by chance was it already installed on this specific server? It could be that it was installed > license ran out > then reinstalled. You could be encountering the protections left behind by the software to recognize this thus preventing you from extending the trial.

I agree with Chistopher, maybe Connectrix Manager was previously installed and de-isntalled, there must be some trace in the Windows Registry.
Try installing it in a different server, just to verify that enabling the trial version is an option. And if so, you'll have to debug the server registry and remove the entry that is preventing the trial version from being enabled.

Thanks for the screenshots. It helped match a candidate KB article. Looks like it is related to having selected: "SMI Agent Only".
Prosphere 1.6: Brocade switch discoveries using CMCNE stopped working with discovery status showing 'Failed' and an old date in 'Last Updated' column

See if this offers any assistance. If not, I would suggest if you haven't already following up with support.

Did the KB article work? I was looking at the screenshots myself and it did appear that this might have been a SAN install? I know you mentioned this was a clean windows VM so let me say that I'm going off the SAN tab appearing in your last screenshot. It might be that "comes with" the SMI agent only install since I haven't tried but but as felipon mentioned above, the license expired message often indicates a previous install.

Thank you Christopher, in fact once I opened SMIA configuration tool window, and clicked the "Fabric Discovery" link according the KB, no any window appeared so that I was not able to discover any fabric. Anything I did wrong?

The KB didn't work, in fact I have installed CMCNE several times in clean windows VM, I am sure I didn't have a previous installation.

I'm also facing the similar issue while discovering DCX on SMI-Agent only of CMCNE for ViPR Controller. Can someone confirm is the Enterprise license of CMCNE require for DCX ?

I'm having the exact same issue, where I am unable to get anything to open upon clicking the links in the Home tab of the SMIA Configuration Tool window as in message #7, above. I selected the same configuration issues at install as in this thread. I can select the other tabs (Auth, CIMON, Cert Mgmt, Summary) and make changes there, but (Fabric Discovery, Host Discover, Users, Options, Server and About) all fail to open new windows. I've disabled UAC, ensured everything in the bin directory is set to run as administrator for all users, etc. Any further ideas? It is a Win12R2 VM.

I was having similar issues but finally discovered the solution.
CMCNE installs its own Java binaries in the CMCNE directory at install time. Unfortunately, the bundled binaries are the wrong version. I installed the latest version of Java and now everything is honky dorey. The application throws lots of cautions and warnings but works.

Yes, if you already have one, you can add the new Switch but if new install yes it's needed.
