Gibberish on console screen

Hello guys,

I need to connect to two MDS 9134 via console cable and both switches present me with this screen. I've tried different Cisco cables (came with the switch), different laptops, different terminals (putty/TeraTerm). I still get these funky characters. I've verified settings on the switch with "show line". Everything looks good, i even tried to set baud rate to something else and then set it back ..hoping it would reset the console. Still no luck. I've seen this before and the only way i was able to fix it was to reload the switch. Not an option here as it's in production. Has anybody seen this ?

Is this "my" 9134 ?

In that case: it was me... sorry

I guess you're looking for a way to reload only the serial interface of the switch and leave the FC part up and running....

LAN is working fine ?

Weird....... create a SR is all I can think of. No tricks up my sleeve....

Nah ..these are not the two you and I were messing with

Yes, I am looking for a way to cycle the console port or something, ssh is working fine.

Hello,

I've seen issues with connecting at lower speeds on certains revs of the switches.   Please try different speeds including 19.2.   There was also a batch of cables that I found issues with so I'd first confirm the cable works on other switches and then try it on the "problem" switches.

Thank you.

Besides opening a support call or rebooting the switch there isn't much that can be done.    There are ways to reset the com port but they can easily lock you permanently out so I don't recommend doing them without support directly involved.

Thank you.

i've tried every possible baud rate, tried the gray Cisco cables you get with with MDS as well as sky blue cables you get with Cisco network switches. Both work fine on another 9222i.  I had this issue on a pre-produciton swtich before. While connected to the console i ssh in and hit reload. My console would show the reboot process and after the reboot console displayed normal characters.  What else can i try here ?

Thanks

this is odd. I uninstalled COM1 and COM2 from Windows Xp device manager, rebooted the laptop ...COM1/COM2 got rediscovered and it's working now.
