Connectrix Manager DC not seeing servers for provisioning

Hello All,

Maybe someone has some advice ...

I have 8 blades (BL460s) in a HP C7000 Flex-10 chassis, all with their cards in the correct slots but we are having intermittent problems with the Connectrix Manager seeing the blades to allow provisioning. One minute they are seen, next they are not. We've rebooted the machines into various modes, looked at various speeds ... it all appears highly random ...

Does anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this? Cabling may be an issue ...

Many thanks,

Kenny.

Hi Mrinal, sincere apologies this has taken so long, but I hadn't forgotten about you

The solution is below. We hadn't seen the issue above before and I don't know if it was something to do with new VMAX engines being put in and new arrays being used... the chassis we were using were also new and in pre-prod

Turns out when the C7000 switch was rebooted all the probes were reset and the WWNS disappear, hence the "seeing" problem. To get us to a state where we could see all the blades in the chassis we:-

  • went into the Emules BIOS for each server and set the fabric to point to point
  • each server was then reprobed and booted to the recovery CD
  • bingo, we could then see them all and we've had no issues since, all our storage is provisioned and we are using it for our O/S and software builds.

Thanks for your feedack, Kenny.

Hi Kenny,

What is the interconnect on the blade your using and discovered on CM. BL-460s has many connectivity options and you need to check the compatibility of those with CM your running first.  Basically network settings cause this kind of issues but you already checked them as mentioned. check for duplex setting on CM and if any discovery errors are getting logged or not ? If not then check java version too once. If you can give more details for interconnect and versions then we can check interoptability.

Mrinal Dani

Hello Mrinal,

Sorry for the delay but many thanks for your helpful advice. We actually got to the bottom of the problem eventually. I have so many emails that I am struggling to find it right now ... once I do I will post what our problem was.

Thanks again, and have a good weekend.

Kenny.
