Could we use the same CIFS server as source and destination?

Hello,

I'm configuring an FMA and I need to create some policies.

In fact, I have an CIFS Server that has 2 file systems mounted on.

  • 1 file system FS1 from tier1 (FC disks)
  • 1 file system FS2 from tier2 (SATAII)

I need to configure tiering so that unused files residing on FS1 are moved to FS2 automatically.

My question is : Can I configure source and destination from one CIFS Server because I didn't find how to do it. What I understood is that I should create 2 different CIFS Server : Source and destination.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can use the same CIFS server for source and destination.   In your example, create a share for FS2, and then create a NAS Repository pointing to that share.   The FMA hands-on labs at EMC World used a single CIFS server.

Thank you Scott,

It worked very well. Now I'm facing another issue.

In fact, I can't create a "multi_tier" or "mutli_tier_stub" policy. All I can create is an "Archive" policy.

After executing the "Archive" policy nothing changes in the source directory. The properties of my files are still the same. The size of the directory didn't reduce. There are no files archived in the destination directory.

Do you have some ideas ?
